Miyamoto Musashi
“Long did I hope to cross blades with a worthy opponent once more... Mayhap your death will free me from my bondage!
”
—Miyamoto Musashi, upon attacking Oboromaru
Miyamoto Musashi is a boss from the Twilight of Edo Japan chapter, The Infiltrator. He is the restless spirit of Japan's most skilled swordsman.
Profile
Appearance
He wears simple white robes along with a red vest. He has long brown hair and a long beard. He also has green skin due to being a spirit. He wields a sword in each hand. In his spirit form, Musashi manifests as a sizeable ball of blue flame, which make take on a wicked, sharp-toothed grin.
Personality
Musashi is an honorable and resolute swordsman. Having gone mostly unopposed in his duels in life, he yet seeks a worthy opponent to truly test himself against in death.
Background
Twilight of Edo Japan: The Infiltrator
Musashi's spirit is summoned by Ode Iou as Oboromaru and the Prisoner confront him on Ode Castle's fifth floor, to serve as a distraction as he flees to the castle roof. Seeing a potential worthy opponent in the ninja, he engages the pair in a duel. Awed and humbled by his defeat, he tells Oboromaru that he will remember his name as he fades from the mortal realm.
Interestingly, if Oboromaru retreats from the fifth floor after Musashi is summoned, his spirit can be found occupying the various rooms of the castle, akin to the Relentless Maid. Thus, he need not be fought on the fifth floor.
Strategy
Miyamoto Musashi can be very threatening, as all of his attacks are strong. Position Ryoma on front of him so he focuses his attacks on him while Oboromaru attacks from a distance with attacks such as Phantom Butterflies or Death Blossom. Avoid the use of Fire techniques, as he will get the "Tech Limit 3" status and proceed to use his strongest technique: Secret: Annihilation Sword.
Remake
Musashi possesses many affinitive resistances, including Thrusting, Slashing, Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth, making the majority of Oboromaru's techniques less effective. The Projectile-affinitive Shuriken Barrage is the only attack Oboromaru has that will deal full damage.
