The Lord of Dark, also known as the Demon King, is a character referenced in the chapter of the same name, as well as a title used by its main antagonists.

Profile

Appearance

While the original Lord of Dark never appears in the flesh, his likeness can be seen in the form of statues in his mountain lair. He is depicted as a dark knight, clad in heavy armor with a cape and a full-face helmet; in this form, he bears a strong resemblance to the Headhunter.

Status

The original Lord of Dark is long dead, as are the only known inheritors of his title: a demon and two humans. However, as long as humans have the capacity for hate, anyone might still become a Lord of Dark.

Background

Before The Lord of Dark chapter

Little is known about the original holder of this title, as he was defeated and killed by Hasshe and Uranus twenty years ago. During his reign, he crafted a number of magic statues in his den within the Archon's Roost. One of these makes up part of his throne atop the mountain's peak.

During The Lord of Dark chapter

At the start of the chapter, a new Lord of Dark kidnaps Princess Alethea. Oersted and his allies track the the fiend to the Archon's Roost and slay it. Hasshe warns the others that this was not the foe he fought before, and that the struggle against the Lord of Dark is not over. Streibough takes up the mantle only moments later, faking his death and using his new power to turn Lucrece and Alethea against Oersted.

After Streibough's death and Alethea's subsequent suicide, a despondent Oersted abandons humanity and becomes the new Lord of Dark, Odio.

During the Dominion of Hate chapter

The heroes encounter Odio atop the Lord of Dark's throne. It remains visible during the battle, just above the well of darkness.

In the remake, the Sin of Odio strongly resembles the statues, and by extension the first Lord of Dark.

Trivia

  • When Oersted becomes Odio, the throne's eyes glow for a moment; the throne seemingly plays a major role in the transfer of the title.
