The Lord of Dark is Oersted's chapter in Live A Live and takes place in the medieval ages. It is a classic RPG inspired chapter, one of the longest in the game. It is unlocked once the first seven chapters have been completed.

Its cursor is a medieval sword.

Chapter Description

In the Kingdom of Lucretia, a fighting tournament is held by the King. The knight Oersted and the magician Straybow enter the tournament in order to win the prize: the right to marry the Lucretian princess, Alicia.

Chapter Mechanics

This scenario plays as your normal generic RPG game. You play as the Knight Oersted, having to complete the quest of rescuing princess Alethea. You can freely roam around the kingdom, from which time to time you will have a random encounter. You will have to recruit the hero Hasshe and the monk Uranus to progress through the story. However, as the chapter progresses, the fate of Oersted changes, becoming the Lord of Dark, Odio.

There is a unique mechanic in which if you head back to certain tiles, such as where you saw Alethea kidnapped, the stool in Uranus' house, or Hasshe's grave you will view a flashback.

Bosses

This chapter contains 5 main bosses:

  • The Demon Lord, a greater demon that kidnapped princess Alethea.
  • Claustrophobia, the fear of enclosed spaces.
  • Scotophobia, the fear of darkness.
  • Acrophobia, the fear of heights.
  • Gynophobia, the fear of women.

Boss

The boss of this scenario is Streibough. You fight him at Virtue's Reward of the Archon's Roost after he reveals his true emotions and his plan to take revenge on Oersted. In this battle, Streibough has all his attacks and he is rather strong. However, by this point Oersted is probably level 14 or more due to all the battling in this chapter.

Chapter Endings

Bad Ending

Gotten after getting a game over at any point before the defeat of the Lord of Dark. The screen will just fade to black, back to the scenario select screen.

Bad Ending - Alethea

Gotten after getting a game over after the defeat of the Lord of Dark. The screen will fade to black and show Alethea scared near the Demon King, begging Oersted for her love.

Normal Ending

The only other ending to this chapter, Oersted successfully defeats Streibough. However, Alethea emerges from the Lord of Dark statue and commits suicide after seeing what Oersted has done. Oersted, after having a flashback, realizes that there is no one left that believes in him and decides to be come the new Lord of Dark, Odio.
