“We of the Indomitable Fist eschew such things as trust and camaraderie... For sentiment is the enemy of strength.”
—Ou Di Wan Lee

Ou Di Wan Lee is the main antagonist of the Imperial China chapter, The Successor. The incarnation of Odio in ancient China, he is a malevolent kung fu master and the instructor of the Indomitable Fist school of kung fu.

Profile

Appearance

Ou Di Wan Lee is a young man with short, black, slicked back hair, a black and white kung fu outfit with a red circle in the middle with the image of a dragon, a yellow belt tied around his waist, black kung fu shoes, and bandages that go from his feet to his calves. In-game, his outfit and hair are depicted as purple, rather than black.

Personality

Ou Di Wan Lee is a cruel and misanthropic man. He rejects the notions of trust and generosity, seeing them as obstacles to overcome on the road to true strength. He is devoted to his arrogant notion of power, keeping himself surrounded by highly trained assassins at all times simply to keep him on guard. Despite serving as leader of a prestigious school, Lee admits that he has no respect for his students outside of his personal elite fighters, solely due to their power. He conducts himself with considerable dishonor, exploiting his followers' loyalty and resorting to underhanded tactics to gain unfair advantages.

History

During The Successor

With the reemergence of the Earthen Heart school of kung fu, Ou Di Wan Lee attempts to have it eliminated. As the Shifu is distracted dealing with Sun Tzu Wang, Lee discreetly sends a band of his men to lay siege to the Earthen Heart dojo and assassinate the Shifu's disciples, Yun Jou, Lei Kugo, and Hong Hakka. Unable to defend themselves against the horde, two of the disciples are killed in Lee's attack.

Swearing vengeance, the Shifu and his surviving disciple storm the school, fending off Lee's students until they come face to face with the master himself. With a false welcome, Lee denies responsibility for the attack, and forces the pair to fight the members of his elite table of fighters one by one. Though he claims to only want a fair fight, his true intent is to gradually wear the pair down to exhaustion. When the Shifu and disciple finally reach him, he deploys two previously unseen assassins to corner the pair, gloating of the superiority of his school and technique.

Undeterred, the Earthen Heart disciple personally takes on Lee as the Shifu handles the assassins. Underestimating the technique of the Earthen Heart, Lee is overwhelmed by the synchronization of body and spirit, and is utterly devastated by the art's greatest technique, Heavenly Peaks Descent. At the battle's end, Lee is sent flying by a final kick where he crashes into his ceremonial gong, killing him. A red cloud of smoke emerges from his body as he falls.

Final Chapter: The Dominion of Hate

A statue of Ou Di Wan Lee is found in the chamber of statues inside the Archon's Roost, alongside the other incarnations of Odio. He is fought once more with the Earthen Heart Master in the true ending route, as part of a gauntlet of every incarnation. If Oersted is selected as the protagonist, Lee is briefly playable in an alternate outcome of his match with the disciple.

Strategy

Ou Di Wan Lee is one of the easier bosses due to his relative lack of powerful attacks, but should not be taken lightly. As this is the final boss of the chapter, use healing items as liberally as you need to. The ultimate technique of the Earthen Heart, Heavenly Peaks Descent, is unlocked for this battle. Though it can only be used a single time, it deals incredible damage to Lee..

If your successor is Yun, get close enough to use Tiger and Dragon's Rebuke a couple times to drop Ou Di Wan Lee's stats. Back off to heal if necessary. After dropping his stats enough, switch to a more damaging attack.

If your successor is Lei, use Kingfisher's Tantrum or Serpent's Strike to beat Ou Di Wan Lee down.

If your successor is Hong, soften him up a bit with Tiger and Dragon's Rebuke, then use Fowl's Violent Caress or Chipmunk's Delight to take Ou Di Wan Lee out.

Trivia

  • As the Chinese character 王 (Wang) can be read as "Ō" or "Oh" in Japanese, Lee's name can be interpreted as "Ou Di Ō Lee".
    • However his Chinese name doesn't contain the character itself; instead, he's called 李傲帝 (Li Aodi). The "Wan" is omitted because it's not conventional to have a Chinese name with two last names. 傲帝 can roughly translate into "arrogant king", which fits his personality and the king aspect, while still keeping the Odio naming theme.
  • Lee seems to possess similar skills to those of the Earthen Heart Shifu, as his sprite depicts him as being able to channel his energy into his palm.
