“Do I know you? Have you some business here? The golden topknot, then—let's see it first.”
—Lucretius asking for a Golden Topknot before fighting the player

Lucretius is an enemy and boss from the final chapter, The Dominion of Hate. He is a god-like fish that has lived way longer than the Kingdom of Lucrece and resides inside the Trial of Instinct. He is the guardian of the Cosmic Ring.

Strategy

Lucretius is a strong boss but unlike all the others you won't get a game over if you lose against him. In order to challenge him you must reach his room and give him a Gold Topknot. He is a close range attacker, but has an advantage due to his size. Since he can only attack those that are close to him, you can use tank characters like Pogo or Masaru Takahara to block him in order to keep your damage dealers away from his range. Oboromaru is a solid choice for this fight due to his abundance of Slashing type attacks. He is mostly a damage sponge if you manage to keep him away. Once you are done fighting him, you will receive the Cosmic Ring and you will be able to ask him some questions.

Questions

Who are you?

  • Lucretius is my name. A carp of eld, born long before the kingdom rose and fell. With passing cent'ries even oaks, 'tis said, attain divinity in eyes of men. Such fervent supplications I enjoyed... But not a soul I've seen for ages now. A quiet, cold and deep, grips all Lucrece. It's just as well. The silence suits me fine. But in the south and east, at distant, mount I sense a prescence faint ...and bitter too... A man, perhaps. Or something more...unkind.

What is this place?

  • The trial of instinct 'twas its given name. For only they of primal potency—the chosen few—could weather dangers dire. Lucrece is home to many trials, you know. Of power, wisdom, skill. Of time and heart. Of keys as well. A curious one, that. And how are you to enter into them? Hmph! Must I gift you every answer, child? What satisfaction is there, I put to you, eschewing effort in the search? 'Tis none! Seek you a strategy guide, at wits' end. But not before. I'd first try this and that. 'Tis in the struggle man finds his glory. This absent purpose, a purposeless wretch!

Who am I?

  • You jest, most surely! Or if not, oh dear...
