Beru is a major character and party member from the Prehistory chapter, The First. She's a young and beautiful cavewoman from a distant tribe, with whom Pogo learns to fall in love.

Profile

Appearance

Beru is a tall, slim cave girl with long straight magenta hair. Her clothing incorporates seashells, including a skimpy bathing suit-like outfit made out of scallop shells, and a headdress composed of a large conch.

Personality

Beru is a shy and flirtatious cavewoman, made terrified by the cruel fate forced upon her. Though she is at first wary towards Pogo and Gori on meeting them, she quickly warms up to Pogo as he proves himself trustworthy, and begins to reciprocate his emotions. Though she may act like a typical damsel in distress at times, she is more than able to fight when necessary.

History

Prehistory: The First

Beru is first seen escaping from the Kuu Tribe, who had captured her with the intent to sacrifice her to their god. On the run, she infiltrates the cave of the Southern Tribe for shelter, keeping herself unseen and stealing their meat to survive. Despite her secrecy, her presence is quickly discovered by Pogo; who is instantly smitten by her. Vowing to keep her safe, Pogo has Beru keep hidden in his room, under a pile of straw.

Unfortunately for Beru, she is rediscovered by the Kuu Tribe when a group of Kuu warriors, led by Zaki, invade the Southern Tribe's cave in pursuit of her. She is rescued by Pogo and Gori, and joins them in driving away the attackers. With Beru's presence exposed, however, she is ejected from the cave by the Elder soon after, along with Pogo and Gori for having harbored her. Out on their own, the trio take shelter in a nearby cavern for the night.

That night, as she sleeps, Beru is successfully recaptured by the Kuu Tribe and separated from Pogo and Gori. She is dragged back to the Kuu Cave, and prepared to be sacrificed. Just before the ritual begins, Pogo and Gori arrive and successfully rescue her once more. Before they can escape, however, the sacrificial altar is destroyed by the angered god of the Kuu tribe, Odo,

Beru, along with Pogo, Gori, and Zaki, come together to slay the feral dinosaur, saving her from sacrifice and bringing peace to the prehistoric lands. As the land's two tribes come together as one, Pogo and Beru retire to consummate their new relationship.

Final Chapter: The Dominion of Hate

If Pogo is chosen as the chapter's protagonist, Beru is briefly seen sleeping beside Pogo, before he is transported to the Dominion of Hate. Additionally, she may be fought as an enemy if Oersted is chosen as the protagonist, in an alternate outcome of her fight with Odo.

In the true ending, Beru is seen once more, waking up to the sight of her husband and their new child.

Gameplay

Strategy

In battle, Beru is a cross between a healer and a glass cannon. She has an excessively low amount of HP and can be taken out in two hits or less, but this can be remedied somewhat with her powerful exclusive equipment, the Wildheart Dress. Once she reaches Level 2 (Level 3 on the SFC), she learns the technique Sing Heal, allowing her to act as the party's healer. Her true potential emerges upon reaching Level 6 (Level 7 on the SFC); Beru learns the powerful ability Sing Hurt, which boasts a wide range, inflicts great damage, and can take out many enemies at once. It's best to keep her away from the strong enemies until learning this move.

The player only has a brief window to fight with Beru and have her learn Sing Hurt: from after the group is exiled to the Wild Lands, until they enter the northern cave at night. After this, Beru is removed from the party for the rest of the chapter, up until the fight with Odo.
