First released for the Super Famicom on September 2nd, 1994 by Squaresoft, Live A Live is a unique JRPG that does not have a single flowing story. Instead, the player is presented with seven chapters they may play through in any order they choose. Each chapter takes place in a different time period, each with unique stories, characters, and mechanics. Completing every chapter unlocks two additional chapters, tying all the stories together.
In 2022, Live A Live received a complete remake from Square Enix for the Nintendo Switch, later ported to PS4, PS5, and Steam in 2023. The remake brought Live A Live to the HD-2D art style, updating both the presentation and gameplay, and officially bringing it overseas for the first time.
